Al-Jarida Reveals Draft of Chinese Seven-Point Proposal to End the Iranian War
An Iranian source told Al-Jarida that the Chinese side presented Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during his visit to Beijing today, with a draft seven-point proposal to end the war. The proposal begins with a cessation of military operations and extends to US-Iranian and Iranian-Gulf negotiations mediated by China, leading to broader international negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement.
The source stated that Beijing is still reviewing the proposal, which could be raised during the scheduled US-China talks on Sunday, as part of preparations for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Washington and his meeting with US President Donald Trump.
The proposal includes the following points:
1. An immediate halt to all skirmishes, clashes, and direct military operations between Iran and the United States, paving the way for a comprehensive ceasefire.
2. The United States commits to halting all its military operations against Iran, in exchange for Tehran’s commitment to stop its attacks and targeting of countries in the region, ensuring a simultaneous de-escalation on both the US and regional tracks.
3. Reopening the Strait of Hormuz to international navigation and restoring ship traffic to pre-war levels, alongside ensuring the security of navigation in the Bab al-Mandab strait, thereby enabling the restoration of trade and energy flows through vital maritime corridors.
4. The United States lifting the blockade imposed on Iranian ports and ending the “economic pariah” campaign, along with suspending part of the previous sanctions imposed on Tehran, as confidence-building measures to create a conducive climate for negotiations.
5. Washington and Tehran entering into direct or indirect negotiations aimed at reaching a political and security agreement that ends the war and establishes a framework for addressing outstanding issues between the two sides.
6. If progress is made on the US-Iranian and Iranian-Gulf tracks, the vision proposes launching broader international negotiations inspired by the format of the talks preceding the 2015 nuclear deal, but with a new composition suited to the nature of the current crisis, aiming to reach a comprehensive agreement addressing nuclear, security, and regional files.
According to the source, the content of the proposal aligns with the positions stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his meeting with Araghchi in Beijing today. Wang Yi emphasized that the continuation and prolongation of the conflict between the United States and Iran do not serve the common interests of the concerned parties or the international community.
Wang Yi called on Tehran and Washington to exercise rationality and restraint, return as soon as possible to the Islamabad memorandum, rebuild the negotiation mechanism based on previously reached consensus, and engage in substantive consultations on issues of mutual concern.
The Chinese Foreign Minister urged the concerned parties to take effective measures to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible and ensure that international waterways remain open and secure, thereby maintaining the stability of global energy supplies and production and supply chains.
He stressed that Beijing does not wish for regional tensions to spread to Yemen and the Red Sea, calling on all parties to refrain from steps that complicate the situation and to work on resolving differences through dialogue and negotiation.
For his part, Iranian media quoted Araghchi as confirming that Tehran “welcomes diplomatic solutions,” while emphasizing that it will continue to defend itself against any aggression.
