Egypt reaffirms its support for Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed Cairo’s complete rejection of all Israeli “violations and aggressions” against Lebanese sovereignty, and called for Israel’s full withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories and the full, non-selective implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

This came during a telephone call between the Egyptian minister and Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was received by the German news agency dpa on Wednesday morning.

The ministry added that the call addressed recent developments in Lebanon, where Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Lebanese state institutions, foremost among them the Lebanese Armed Forces, enabling them to fulfill their responsibilities and extend state authority over all Lebanese territory.

The conversation also covered the broader landscape of rapid regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions, as well as the implications of developments in the Red Sea for the security and safety of maritime navigation, freedom of international trade, and energy supplies. The minister outlined Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to prevent the escalation from widening and to spare the region further tension and instability, the statement said.
