Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Campaign for Cancer Awareness (KANE), stated that head and neck cancer ranked tenth among the most common types of cancer among Kuwaiti men, and eighth among non-Kuwaiti men, according to 2022 data. He emphasized the importance of continuing awareness campaigns about the disease, highlighting risk factors and prevention methods.

Al-Saleh added in a press statement marking the launch of the 2026 Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Campaign today under the slogan “Your Awareness Makes a Difference,” that the campaign will run throughout the month. It aims to provide health information about the disease, its types, associated risk factors, and prevention strategies, while also raising awareness about the importance of paying attention to symptoms and consulting a doctor when necessary.

He noted that awareness is a fundamental aspect of cancer control efforts, stressing the need to enhance community knowledge about head and neck cancer, identify associated risk factors, and encourage healthy behaviors that contribute to prevention.

He clarified that head and neck cancer encompasses a group of cancers affecting various regions of the head and neck. He pointed out that educating the public about these cancer types and their associated risk factors is a key focus of the campaign during September, with the goal of improving health literacy within the community.

Al-Saleh further explained that the campaign program includes organizing awareness exhibitions at several health centers and hospitals to directly reach community members and provide them with information and health guidance related to head and neck cancer. Additionally, awareness materials and leaflets will be disseminated via social media platforms, enabling access to a broader audience and delivering health messages in a simplified and reliable manner.

He noted that the awareness component of the campaign also includes organizing educational lectures for healthcare sector workers, including doctors and nursing staff, to enhance their knowledge of head and neck cancer and support their role in health awareness and education.

He affirmed that KANE strives through its campaigns to ensure that awareness messages reach all segments of society, while emphasizing the role of healthcare workers as key partners in spreading awareness and promoting a culture of prevention.
