Tesla to begin deliveries of its 'Semi' electric truck to customers in Europe in 2027

US-based Tesla plans to launch its “Semi” electric truck in Europe next year.

At the International Transport Exhibition in Hanover, Germany, the electric vehicle manufacturer announced on Monday that deliveries of the first vehicles to European customers will begin in 2027, adding that further details regarding the truck’s market launch in Europe will be released in the coming months.

According to the disclosed data, Tesla will initially offer the standard version in Europe, which boasts a range of approximately 550 kilometers on a single battery charge. When using fast-charging stations, the electric truck can replenish up to 60 percent of its range within 30 minutes. The vehicle is designed to tow a total weight of up to 40 tons. For comparison, Tesla estimates the range of the version equipped with a larger battery in the United States at slightly over 800 kilometers.

The truck was first unveiled in 2017, with initial announcements stating that production was originally slated to begin in 2019. However, Tesla postponed the start of production several times, citing battery supply priorities for its best-selling cars, such as the Model 3. Ultimately, large-scale production began in April of this year at the company’s facility in Nevada, US. In the United States, the first Tesla trucks have been delivered to customers, including the beverage and snack company PepsiCo.

In Europe, Tesla’s truck will face competition from products by European truck manufacturers such as Daimler Truck, MAN, Scania, Volvo, Iveco, and Renault. The carmaker, owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk, also showcased the “Semi” truck at the Hanover exhibition two years ago. The commercial vehicle show officially opens tomorrow, Tuesday, and runs until next Sunday.
