Al-Azraq resumes training in preparation for Gulf Cup 27

The Kuwait senior national football team will resume its training sessions tomorrow in two shifts: a morning session at the Iron Hall and an evening session at the fields of Qatar’s Aspire Academy, as part of the camp the team is holding in Doha during the penultimate phase of preparations for the “Gulf Cup 27” tournament. The tournament will be hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from October 23 until October 6 next year.

Tomorrow’s training session will be the last for the “Azraq” (Blue) squad at the camp, as the delegation will head to the airport on Wednesday morning to travel to Jeddah. The team will then enter a short pre-tournament camp ahead of the Gulf Cup, which will include a friendly match against the Yemen national team on Thursday.

The national team’s technical staff, led by Portuguese coach Helio Sousa, gave players a rest day yesterday to recover after the intense two-shift training regimen they undertook since arriving in Doha.

The friendly match played two days ago against Qatari club Al-Lusail ended in a 2-0 victory for the Kuwaiti team, with goals scored by Youssef Majed and Khaled Al-Murshed in the second half.

Sousa gave all players currently at the camp the opportunity to participate in the match, with more than one player featuring for over 35 minutes. There had been a prior agreement to limit the match to two halves totaling 70 minutes.

It is worth noting that eight players selected by Sousa from Al-Kuwait Club did not join the camp.

The second half saw an improvement in the team’s technical performance, resulting in the goals by Youssef Majed and Khaled Al-Murshed. There was also a sense of confidence regarding the physical fitness levels of all players.

Sousa held a technical briefing with the players yesterday, praising their efforts, as well as their adherence to instructions and execution of tasks during the match.

He and the players reviewed video clips of the game, with the coach highlighting key positives and negatives, and explaining various technical and tactical aspects.
