The meeting witnessed the announcement of the Ministry of Development’s sponsorship of “Omaniya,” in recognition of its role in promoting the culture of source-separated plastic waste sorting, encouraging recycling, and raising awareness of sustainability among various segments of society.
During the meeting, the “Omaniya” team presented the company’s journey and its environmental and community initiatives, foremost among them the “Omaniya Your School” competition, which targets students in government schools. The competition focuses on transforming sustainability concepts into daily behaviors through awareness campaigns, active participation, and measuring the quantities of plastic collected by students for recycling.
The meeting also discussed ways to expand cooperation between the ministry and “Omaniya,” and to support environmental initiatives that contribute to achieving Kuwait Vision 2035 and environmental governance standards aimed at reducing waste through a circular economy.
Al-Ghamlas praised the Ministry of Development’s sponsorship, emphasizing that it represents significant support for “Omaniya’s” journey and its mission, which originated from Kuwaiti society and aims to build sustainable environmental behaviors starting from the individual and extending to schools, families, and state institutions.
For her part, Shaban stressed the importance of this step in supporting the continuity of “Omaniya” and adding substantial value to the “Omaniya Your School” competition in its fourth consecutive year. Held under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and supervised by the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs during the first semester, the competition includes government schools across all educational stages. She noted that the ministry’s sponsorship adds significant value from the public sector, alongside the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Interior represented by the Environmental Police, the Green Urban Development Initiatives Committee, and Kuwait Oil Company.
