Trump: War with Iran Would End Immediately After Elections

US President Donald Trump expressed on Wednesday his belief that the war with Iran will end “immediately after” the midterm congressional elections in November, as Tehran attempts to influence the vote but will not be able to withstand further US economic pressure.

Speaking to reporters before departing for a Republican conference in Dallas, he said, “I believe the war will end immediately after the elections because they can no longer endure for much longer. They are eager to try to influence the elections.”

The US war on Iran has entered its seventh month, with no end in sight. Iran announced today that it had attacked 10 ships near the Strait of Hormuz after the United States sank five Iranian oil tankers. The resumption of fighting has driven oil prices sharply higher, with Brent crude surpassing $100 per barrel for the first time since July.

Trump’s popularity has recently fallen to its lowest level ever, due to voter discontent over the war with Iran and the worsening cost-of-living crisis. The midterm elections, scheduled for November 3, 2026, will serve as a referendum on the president.

Trump said today that oil prices would also drop immediately after the war ends, following the elections, acknowledging that diplomatic talks remain possible but are not his preferred option.
