Iraqi and Al-Busaidi issue joint statement after talks in Tehran

The Oman News Agency stated that the statement indicated that the Foreign Minister’s talks with his Iranian counterpart in Tehran were constructive and focused on the importance both countries attach to resuming safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, in a manner that safeguards their sovereignty and sovereign rights.
It added that the two ministers discussed a phased framework that would provide a practical and implementable basis, given the current situation in the strait resulting from the recent war and its tragic repercussions. The proposed framework includes establishing a temporary joint navigation corridor through the Strait of Hormuz and agreeing on the implementation of a joint project to clear the strait of mines.
Both sides emphasized the importance of holding joint discussions with the countries in the region bordering the Gulf waters, and stressed the necessity of adhering to the provisions of international law and respecting the sovereign rights of coastal states.
