Gulf Air Welcomes Tajikistan's Ambassador to Kuwait

Jazeera Airways received the new Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to Kuwait, Khosrow Nazari, at its headquarters, as relations between Kuwait and Tajikistan enter a new phase of bilateral cooperation. Discussions focused on the role that direct air connectivity can play in supporting growing diplomatic, economic, and tourism ties, and in enhancing communication between the peoples of the two countries.

Relations between Kuwait and Tajikistan have witnessed a notable momentum in recent months, culminating in the opening of Kuwait’s first resident embassy in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, in July 2026, and the appointment of Ambassador Mohammed Rashid Al-Omairi as Kuwait’s first resident ambassador to Tajikistan. This step was followed by a series of high-level meetings aimed at expanding political, economic, consular, cultural, and tourism cooperation between the two nations.

Over the past four years, Jazeera Airways has played a significant role in strengthening air connectivity between the two countries. On December 29, 2022, Jazeera Airways became the first airline to operate direct flights between Kuwait and Dushanbe. Since launching the route, the carrier has operated approximately 600 flights, transporting more than 87,000 passengers, thereby contributing to enhanced ties between the two countries.

In addition to serving direct travel between Kuwait and Tajikistan, flights from Dushanbe offer transit options, allowing passengers to continue their journeys to various destinations served by Jazeera Airways in the Middle East and Asia via Kuwait. These connecting options include destinations in Saudi Arabia, Gulf countries, and India, reinforcing Kuwait’s role as a gateway for travelers from Central Asia and providing important connectivity for passengers traveling to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the significant tourism potential of Tajikistan and its growing appeal to travelers from Kuwait and the region. With its mountains, lakes, and stunning natural landscapes, alongside its ancient history and rich cultural heritage, Tajikistan is an attractive destination for Kuwaiti families, expatriate communities, nature and adventure enthusiasts, and travelers seeking new experiences in Central Asia.

Recent bilateral discussions also explored opportunities to expand tourism cooperation, cultural and academic exchanges, and joint initiatives and events, all aimed at strengthening bonds between the peoples of Kuwait and Tajikistan.

Ambassador Khosrow Nazari stated, “Relations between Tajikistan and Kuwait are entering a new and important phase, driven by expanding communication between the governments of both countries and the significant opportunities to broaden cooperation in tourism, trade, investment, culture, and education. The opening of Kuwait’s resident embassy in Dushanbe marks an important milestone, reflecting the strength of relations between our two countries and our shared ambition to further develop them.”

He added, “Direct air connectivity is a key element in bridging distances and strengthening relations between our two countries and peoples. Jazeera Airways has played a vital role as the first airline to launch direct flights between Kuwait and Dushanbe, creating new opportunities for tourism, business, and people-to-people ties. We look forward to working together to promote Tajikistan as a tourist destination and to enhance connectivity between it, Kuwait, and the wider region.” The discussions also covered opportunities to encourage further communication and cooperation between Kuwaiti investors and companies and their Tajik counterparts.

For his part, Prashanth Basupathi, CEO of Jazeera Airways, welcomed the ambassador, stating, “Relations between Kuwait and Tajikistan are experiencing rapid development, and the aviation sector plays a key role in supporting this progress. It is a source of pride for Jazeera Airways to have been the first airline to connect Kuwait and Dushanbe directly in 2022. Since then, we have operated approximately 600 flights on this route, transporting over 87,000 passengers.”

Basupathi added, “Our ambitions extend beyond merely linking two cities. Through Kuwait, we can connect passengers from Tajikistan to multiple destinations within our extensive network, including Saudi Arabia, Gulf countries, and India, while simultaneously facilitating access to Tajikistan for travelers from Kuwait and the region. As diplomatic, tourism, cultural, and economic ties between our two countries grow, we see significant potential for the aviation sector to strengthen connectivity between our peoples, business sectors, and economies.”

This meeting comes amid increasing engagement between Kuwait and Tajikistan, reflecting the shared commitment of Jazeera Airways and the Embassy of Tajikistan to support this new phase of bilateral relations by enhancing air connectivity to boost tourism, investment, trade, and the bonds between the peoples of both countries.
