Palestinian Presidency calls for an emergency Security Council session after occupation forces evacuate an UNRWA compound
The Palestinian Presidency called on Tuesday for the UN Security Council to convene urgently and take binding measures to halt the Israeli occupation forces’ attacks on United Nations offices and institutions in Jerusalem and Qalandia, and to evacuate the premises of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
In a statement released by the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa), the Palestinian Presidency emphasized that targeting UN offices and institutions in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, constitutes a serious violation of international law and the immunity of international organizations, representing a dangerous escalation that cannot be ignored.
The Presidency stated that “these attacks are part of a systematic and continuous Israeli policy aimed at the Palestinian people, their institutions, and their national rights, and are accompanied by the ongoing genocide and siege against our people in the Gaza Strip and the escalation of Israeli occupation aggression against Palestinian cities, villages, and camps.”
It stressed that what is happening in Jerusalem, Qalandia, and the West Bank is part of a comprehensive policy aimed at undermining the existence of the Palestinian people, altering the geographic and demographic reality of the occupied Palestinian territory, and entrenching the occupation, annexation, and settlement expansion, thereby undermining the prospects of achieving peace and a two-state solution.
For its part, the Jerusalem Governorate said in a press statement that occupation forces evacuated the UNRWA compound in the town of Kafr Aqab as part of the ongoing campaign against UNRWA institutions in Jerusalem, and stormed the Qalandia refugee camp and Kafr Aqab town, with the participation of Israel’s so-called Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, who took part in the raid. It added that occupation forces raised the Israeli flag in the courtyard of the Qalandia Institute affiliated with UNRWA.
