Al-Zaidi: Iraq will not be a station for harming others

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said on Monday that his government is committed to the requirements of national peace and social cohesion and the rule of law, and that “Iraq will not become a station for harming others.”

In a speech delivered while presiding over celebrations marking the Prophet’s birthday, al-Zaidi added that “the government is proceeding with building a free Iraq with full sovereignty, in which the people enjoy all the conditions for respect, dignity, and security, through the cooperation of all its citizens in protecting it, preserving its wealth, and safeguarding the future of its generations.”

He noted that Iraqis will declare the completion of their sovereignty over the entire Iraqi territory on September 30, the “date of withdrawal of international coalition forces from Iraq.”

Al-Zaidi stated that “our region is living under continuous tensions that have caused divisions in the curricula and visions governing the countries of the Islamic system,” clarifying that “our government’s program includes a clear approach to construction and reform, combating corruption, enhancing a productive work environment, and our commitment to building security institutions that operate under the umbrella of the Constitution.”
