30 dead in landfill collapse in Guinea

Thirty people were killed and 22 injured in Guinea on Sunday after a landfill collapsed in a suburb of the capital, Conakry, due to heavy rains.

The government said in a statement that the incident occurred at 2:00 a.m. (local and UTC time) in the Dar al-Salam neighborhood of the Gbessia district “following heavy overnight rains,” and “caused the collapse of several homes,” leaving 30 people dead and “six people seriously injured and 16 with minor injuries.”
