Tesla Promises Upcoming Launch of Self-Driving Taxi 'Cybercab'

The company founded by Elon Musk posted an advertisement on social media on Friday, offering a chance to experience the “Cybercab” at an event in September in Austin, Texas, where Tesla’s headquarters is located.

The company stated on its website, “We are celebrating the launch of the autonomous ride-hailing vehicle, Cybercab, at an exclusive event in Austin, and you can be there,” as part of a promotion for a contest that offers a chance to win an invitation to attend the event.

The gold-colored vehicle, first unveiled in October 2024, is designed to carry two passengers and is Tesla’s first car completely devoid of a steering wheel and pedals.

Musk had previously stated that the company plans to begin production of the vehicle before 2027 and sell it to individuals for less than $30,000.

In this context, the US technology news outlet The Information reported this week that Tesla employees were informed that the Cybercab launch would begin by providing the service to them, followed by integrating the vehicle into the autonomous ride-hailing fleet in Austin.

Tesla news followers in recent weeks have reported sightings of lots filled with Cybercabs, sparking rumors about the proximity of the official launch date.

Tesla launched its autonomous ride-hailing service in Austin last year using the Model Y, gradually expanding the robotaxi service to other cities in Texas, Florida, and California.

However, laws in these states require most of these vehicles to have a human supervisor on board who is ready to take control when necessary.
