Hal City returns to the Premier League after a nine-year absence, stunning Manchester United with a two-goal victory

Hull City began their return to the English Premier League after a nine-year absence with an ideal start, securing a surprising and thrilling 2-0 victory over visiting Manchester United on Saturday in the opening round of the competition.

Hull City were relegated from the Premier League in the 2016-17 season and have since strived hard to regain their prominence, finally achieving their goal last May.

Hull City sealed the win in the first half after Nigerian Sime Agye took the lead in the 17th minute, with Senegalese midfielder Nabil Mendy adding a second goal in the 38th minute.

Manchester United goalkeeper Seny Laminez was strongly present at the start of the match, saving a header from MacPhee following an organized attack down the left flank, before intervening again to push away a dangerous cross from Giles into a corner.

However, Hull’s pressure paid off in the 17th minute when the home side capitalized on a corner that Manchester United’s defense failed to deal with properly. The ball reached MacPhee, who struck it, forcing Laminez to make a save, but Sime Agye pounced on the rebound and fired it into the net.

The first goal exposed clear struggles for Manchester United in dealing with set pieces, as their defense also struggled against MacPhee’s physicality, who outmuscled Aidan Heaven in one of the challenges preceding the goal.

Manchester United attempted to respond, with their best chance coming immediately after the goal when Harry Maguire played a precise pass into the penalty area to Patrick Dorgu, but the latter failed to direct his shot on target.

Hull City doubled their lead before halftime, again from a set piece. The ball reached Nabil Mendy, who scored the second goal in the 38th minute.

With the start of the second half, Hull continued to press and launch attacks, while Manchester United gradually improved their performance and began to reach the attacking third, though without creating genuine danger to the home side’s goal.

In the 66th minute, United had a good opportunity when Luke Shaw delivered a precise cross that reached Nabil Mazraoui at the far post, but his shot went over the crossbar.
