Egypt stressed on Saturday the paramount importance of restoring normal navigation and ensuring the security, safety, and freedom of passage through the Strait of Hormuz, “in light of its direct repercussions on the global economy, energy security, supply chains, and international trade.”
This came during a phone call today between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Omani counterpart, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.
The call covered bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to continue developing them across various fields, as well as the exchange of views and assessments regarding recent developments in the regional situation and issues of mutual interest, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The conversation also addressed in detail the ongoing developments in the region, particularly those concerning freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of building on ongoing diplomatic efforts to contribute to de-escalation and create conditions for a return to the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, and to resume the negotiation process leading to a comprehensive and sustainable settlement that enhances security and stability in the region.
