Algerian Ambassador: Direct air route with Kuwait coming soon
The Algerian Ambassador to Kuwait, Omar Belhadj, affirmed the depth and resilience of Kuwaiti-Algerian relations, describing them as “historical and rooted relations built on solid foundations of brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual respect.” He praised the honorable historical positions taken by the State of Kuwait, both its leadership and people, alongside Algeria during the Liberation War, as well as the support and assistance it provided to the Algerian cause throughout the various stages of the struggle for independence.
In a speech delivered today on the occasion of his embassy’s celebration of “Mujahid Day,” which falls on August 20 of each year, and in the presence of members of the Algerian community, Belhadj stated that relations between Kuwait and Algeria are witnessing continuous development, driven by a shared commitment from the leaderships of both countries to enhance and elevate ties across various fields.
He revealed that he recently met with the Kuwaiti Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Arab Affairs, noting that the meeting discussed the Kuwaiti-Algerian Joint Committee, emphasizing the importance of holding its meetings in the coming period as one of the main mechanisms for strengthening cooperation between the two countries and following up on various bilateral cooperation files.
He pointed out that the upcoming meetings of the committee will be chaired by the finance ministers of both countries, reflecting a shared interest in strengthening economic, investment, and trade relations, and opening new horizons for cooperation between the public and private sectors in both countries.
As an indicator of both countries’ direction toward enhancing direct communication, Belhadj noted that both sides are also discussing the imminent opening of a direct air route between their capitals, Kuwait and Algiers, considering that launching this route would represent an important step in strengthening ties between the two peoples and facilitating the movement of citizens, businessmen, investors, and tourists.
He affirmed that the direct air link would contribute to revitalizing economic, tourism, and cultural cooperation between the two countries, and open broader horizons for bilateral relations, particularly given the presence of an Algerian community in Kuwait and the strong social, humanitarian, and cultural ties binding the two brotherly peoples.
He reiterated the special place Kuwait holds in the Algerian memory, praising its historical positions supporting the Algerian people and their just cause, and stressed that Kuwaiti-Algerian relations are based on a long legacy of solidarity, brotherhood, and mutual respect.
He concluded by affirming that Algeria looks forward to continuing to develop its relations with Kuwait in various fields, reflecting the depth of the historical ties between the two countries and opening new horizons for economic, investment, trade, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation.
