Arsenal set for strong start to title defense campaign tomorrow

Arsenal begin their title defense in the English Premier League with a match that appears theoretically straightforward against newly promoted Coventry City on Friday evening, in the opening round of the competition.
After a 22-year absence from the Premier League title, Arsenal returned to the podium last season, ending a long wait by clinching the championship ahead of Manchester City and Liverpool, with City remaining a fierce rival until the final stages of the season.
Arsenal started the new season ideally, defeating Manchester City 3-0 and winning the Community Shield in the first official match under Italian coach Enzo Maresca, the new manager of Manchester City, succeeding Spaniard Pep Guardiola, who left after nearly a decade with the club.
Arsenal hope their title defense begins successfully and without surprises against a team led by manager Frank Lampard, who was always a fierce rival as a player for Chelsea, before embarking on a managerial career with Chelsea and Everton, and then taking charge of Coventry City, which he guided back to the Premier League after a 25-year absence.
Arsenal also hold the upper hand in head-to-head encounters between the two sides, having met 76 times across all competitions, with Arsenal winning 43 matches compared to Coventry’s 14, while 19 matches ended in draws.
Round one matches continue on Saturday, where newly promoted Hull City host Manchester United, who finished third last season after showing marked improvement under manager Michael Carrick.
Manchester United strengthened their squad ahead of a season in which they aim to compete strongly and return to the UEFA Champions League, with their most notable signings being Belgian Yari Verschaeren from Aston Villa and Brazilian André Santos from Chelsea.
Third-placed Ipswich Town face Sunderland at Portman Road in a match that appears relatively balanced.
Ipswich hope their new manager, Gary O’Neil, delivers a strong performance to secure the team’s Premier League survival and avoid an early relegation battle.
Meanwhile, Sunderland maintain managerial stability under French coach Régis Le Bris, who continues to lead the club after his contract was extended until 2028.
Following a relatively difficult domestic season, Crystal Palace, winners of the UEFA Europa Conference League, hope for a strong start against Everton in their Saturday match at Goodison Park.
Everton remain stable under manager David Moyes, while Crystal Palace begin the season under French coach Pierre Sage, who succeeded Austrian Oliver Glasner.
Amid a busy summer marked by numerous managerial changes in the Premier League, Tottenham, now led by Italian Roberto De Zerbi, start their campaign against Brentford, managed by Irishman Keith Andrews.
The season will serve as a real test for De Zerbi, who has previous Premier League experience with Brighton, especially since last season was frustrating for the club, which finished 17th, while Brentford had a good season, finishing ninth, behind eighth-placed Brighton on goal difference.
