UK restricts use of AI glasses in cinemas to protect privacy and prevent piracy

The British Cinema Association announced on Thursday that cinema operators across the country have begun implementing policies aimed at banning or restricting the use of smart glasses equipped with cameras, including Meta’s AI-powered glasses, citing concerns over privacy and film piracy.
This move comes amid growing scrutiny of smart glasses due to their recording capabilities. Earlier this month, courts in England and Wales banned the use of Meta’s smart glasses, citing restrictions on taking photos and recording videos inside courtrooms.
For its part, a German rights advocacy group announced in early August that it had filed a criminal lawsuit against Meta and other parties involved in the sale of Meta devices, citing privacy laws.
