Syria: Sabotage targets a gas export pipeline from the Jibsa oil fields

The Syrian Petroleum Company issued a clarification regarding the circumstances of the explosion that occurred early Tuesday morning on the gas export pipeline from the Jibsa Gas Plant. At 4:00 a.m., an explosion on the gas export pipeline from the Jibsa Gas Plant caused a halt in pumping through the line. The wells were isolated, safety valves were closed, and the site was fully secured, with no injuries reported among the workers. From the first moments, our personnel at the site have been working, and the necessary machinery has been secured. Teams have begun repair operations, which are being carried out around the clock. The stoppage of flow affected the fuel supply to several power generation units. The company is coordinating with the Syrian Electricity Company to compensate for the shortfall using available alternatives. The incident was monitored and the site inspected immediately after it occurred. Initial investigation results indicated that the explosion was the result of deliberate sabotage. We are working in coordination with the relevant authorities to complete the investigation and pursue those responsible for these acts. We have also initiated additional measures to strengthen the protection of oil and gas facilities and their associated transmission lines. Targeting these facilities is an attack on a service that reaches every citizen’s home, and on the efforts of personnel working under the most difficult conditions. The company affirms that work continues until the pipeline returns to service.
