Customs: 2,236 food items seized in six containers before export to Sri Lanka

The General Directorate of Customs announced that its inspectors at Shuwaikh Port today seized 2,236 items of food supplies loaded into six 40-foot containers destined for export to Sri Lanka. Inspection revealed that the containers held subsidized food supplies, and an inventory of the seized goods yielded the following quantities:

The seized containers belonged to several shipping and export companies, and were intercepted while completing export procedures through the Shuwaikh Port checkpoint, prior to their departure from the country.

This seizure is part of efforts to safeguard the country’s food security, preserve the strategic reserve of essential commodities, ensure that subsidized food supplies reach their rightful beneficiaries, and prevent their smuggling or misuse in illegal export operations that could affect the availability of goods and the stability of supplies in the domestic market.

The General Directorate of Customs reaffirmed its continued vigilance at all customs checkpoints, its efforts to thwart attempts to smuggle and illegally export subsidized food supplies in violation of applicable laws and regulations, and its commitment to taking legal action against anyone proven involved in such incidents.
