Newcastle signs Dedić

English football club Newcastle United announced on Tuesday that it had signed Bosnian defender Amar Dedić from Portuguese club Benfica in a deal valued at $40 million.

The Austrian-born right-back will play under Newcastle’s new German manager, Matthias Jaissle, with whom he won the Austrian league title with Red Bull Salzburg in 2023.

Dedić, who has earned 31 caps for his national team, joined Red Bull Salzburg in 2019 and played for the reserve side, FC Liefering, where he worked under Jaissle for the first time.

He also spent loan spells with Austrian club Wolfsberger AC and French side Marseille before moving to Benfica on a permanent deal.

Meanwhile, highly regarded manager Eddie Howe departed the club after five years in charge.
