Qatar confirmed on Tuesday that current efforts are focused on de-escalating the ongoing crisis and bringing the two sides of the dispute back to the negotiating table.
Al Jazeera news channel quoted Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majid Al-Ansari as saying at a press conference in Doha today that the current effort is aimed at de-escalating the crisis and returning to the memorandum of understanding, noting that their efforts at this stage are focused on halting escalation and bringing the parties to the crisis back to the dialogue table.
He added, “What we want in Qatar is an agreement to open the Strait of Hormuz and implement a ceasefire simultaneously.”
Regarding the Iranian pilots, Al-Ansari said, “We found the remains of one of the two pilots who breached Qatari airspace on March 19.”
On developments in Palestine, Al-Ansari emphasized the commitment to moving forward despite Israeli intransigence in implementing the Gaza ceasefire plan, stating, “What we are calling for is to push both parties to the Gaza agreement to fully implement the agreed-upon plan.”
