Unidentified aircraft struck a military airport outside of service in northwestern Syria early Tuesday, where forces affiliated with the Ministry of Defense are stationed, according to a security source speaking to Agence France-Presse.
The source, who requested anonymity, said that “unidentified aircraft bombed Abu al-Duhur military airport in Idlib province early Tuesday.”
Forces under the protection of the Syrian Ministry of Defense are stationed at the airport, which has been out of service since 2012, according to the source, who did not mention any casualties.
Israeli forces had previously launched hundreds of strikes on what they described as military targets in Syria following the overthrow of the previous regime at the end of 2024.
Meanwhile, aircraft from the US-led international coalition have been carrying out airstrikes, often targeting leaders of the “Daesh” (ISIS) group.
The transitional authorities have maintained control over the airport, which suffered severe damage during years of conflict, since coming to power.
The previous regime’s forces had regained control of the facility in late 2018, after losing it in September 2015 when opposition and jihadist factions seized most of Idlib province.
