UN Secretary-General calls for resumption of talks between the United States and Iran

Stephan Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said in a press conference when asked about the Secretary-General’s message, as the 60-day deadline for reaching a final agreement under the Iran-US memorandum of understanding signed on June 17 expired, that Guterres hopes negotiations will resume.
He added, “His message is the same as the one he has been delivering from the outset: there is no military solution to this conflict.” He urged the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States to resume negotiations as soon as possible to reach a peaceful and lasting settlement, to avoid military action, and to de-escalate the rhetoric we have heard in recent days.
