Ministry of Public Works Continues to Enhance Its Achievements and Initiatives in the Field of Sustainability

Al Mabani continues to reinforce sustainability as a core element of its corporate strategy and operational processes, by adopting an integrated approach that combines enhancing resource efficiency, strengthening community responsibility, and implementing best governance practices. This contributes to achieving a lasting positive impact and creating long-term value for society and stakeholders. The company’s comprehensive sustainability strategy integrates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations across all stages of project planning, design, implementation, and operation, ensuring that growth and expansion align with sustainable development principles.
Reflecting its progress in environmental, social, and governance performance, Al Mabani has strengthened its presence among leading global sustainability assessments. It received a BBB rating from MSCI, scored 40 in S&P Global’s ESG assessment, achieved a score of 20.21 in Sustainalytics’ evaluation, recorded a 2.2 rating in LSEG Data & Analytics’ assessment, and earned a score of 68 in CSRHub’s evaluation.
The company continues to establish clear objectives and performance indicators in the areas of energy, water, waste, and emissions, while developing governance and disclosure frameworks and enhancing the role of sustainability in corporate and investment decision-making.
This approach is reflected in the initiatives implemented through the company’s projects, most notably The Avenues – Kuwait, alongside Al Mabani’s achievements in green building, sustainable finance, workplace environment, and global ESG practice assessments.
In line with The Avenues – Kuwait’s commitment to supporting national efforts to rationalize electricity consumption and raise awareness about the importance of conserving resources, The Avenues launched the “The Impact Starts With You” campaign across its social media platforms. The campaign aims to encourage community members to adopt simple daily practices that help reduce energy consumption, emphasizing that achieving a positive and sustainable impact begins with individual actions and shared responsibility.
The Avenues’ efforts in this regard extended to its tenants, who were engaged and encouraged to support energy conservation measures by setting air conditioning thermostats to 24°C and minimizing the use of screens within stores, thereby helping to curb unnecessary consumption.
Operationally, The Avenues continues to implement a range of measures aimed at improving energy efficiency. Approximately 95% of its lighting has been converted to energy-efficient LED bulbs, which consume less power than traditional lighting. Motion sensors have also been installed in prayer rooms and service corridors to ensure lighting is activated only when needed, reducing electricity consumption without compromising the quality of services provided to visitors.
Additionally, air conditioning temperatures in public corridors have been set to 24°C. Regular maintenance of air conditioning systems, including filter cleaning and performance monitoring, is being carried out. The Avenues also leverages natural daylight through the use of ETFE material in its roof design, which allows natural light to enter and reduces the need for artificial lighting during daytime hours.
Beyond its environmental initiatives, The Avenues – Kuwait continues to fulfill its role as an active community platform by providing spaces for government entities and non-governmental organizations to host events and campaigns aligned with corporate social responsibility initiatives. These spaces enable participating organizations to engage directly with a broad segment of the public and disseminate their awareness messages in one of Kuwait’s most visited destinations.
Events held at The Avenues – Kuwait achieved significant success, engagement, and high visitor turnout. These included the “Be Aware” campaign by the Ministry of Interior to enhance security awareness, the “A Nation That Protects You” anti-drug campaign by the Ministry of Social Affairs, and the “Guide Me” campaign by the Ministry of Higher Education. Additionally, awareness campaigns related to university admissions were conducted in collaboration with the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, Kuwait University, and the General Administration of Private Education.
The support provided by The Avenues to these events reflects its role, which extends beyond offering shopping and entertainment experiences, to actively contributing to raising community awareness in the fields of education, health, security, and social development.
In line with its support for applied education and enhancing the awareness of new generations regarding sustainability issues, The Avenues hosted field trips for students enrolled in the 47th Summer Training Course, organized by the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research. The aim was to enrich their training experience and introduce them to The Avenues’ practices in recycling, sustainability, and resource management efficiency.
The tours familiarized students with the sustainable operational practices implemented by The Avenues, including its role in waste sorting and recycling, improving energy and water consumption efficiency, as well as the solutions it adopts to manage and operate facilities more efficiently and sustainably.
Al Moayyed’s commitment to green building standards extends to several of its current and future projects, with four projects having received LEED certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The Avenues is the first commercial complex in Kuwait to receive the Gold Certification, while the projects Aventuro, Sabah Al-Saleh Souq, and The Avenues – Dammam have received Pre-Certification at the Gold level.
Approximately 40.55% of Al Moayyed’s total investment portfolio by area consists of projects that have obtained LEED certification or pre-certification, reflecting the company’s expansion in applying green building concepts across its projects.
In an achievement reflecting its commitment to providing a healthy and safe environment, The Avenues – Kuwait received the Diamond rating under the Healthier Buildings project “Mu’azzaz,” with an evaluation score of 99%, one of the highest ratings achieved by commercial complexes in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Al Moayyed’s sustainability approach extends to investing in human capital, as the company has received the globally recognized Great Place to Work certification, accredited for the GCC region for the years 2025 and 2026.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and responsible disclosure, Al Moayyed issued its ninth Sustainability Report for 2025 under the theme “Sustainable Destinations and Thriving Communities,” emphasizing that sustainability is not merely a阶段性 goal but a long-term institutional commitment spanning across its various operations and projects.
The report highlighted the company’s key achievements and performance in environmental, social, and governance areas, and was prepared in accordance with leading global standards. The electronic issuance of the report aligns with the company’s approach to environmental conservation, reducing resource usage, and enhancing sustainable disclosure practices.
Furthermore, in November 2025, Al Moayyed signed the first green loan agreement in Kuwait, valued at KD 25 million, with National Bank of Kuwait, to finance the Sabah Al-Saleh Souq project. This financing reflects the company’s commitment to directing its investments toward projects that meet sustainability, green building, and resource efficiency standards.
