Ministry of Education: Appointment of 2,440 Kuwaiti Teachers... and Commencement of School Readiness

As the relevant departments at the Ministry of Education work to expedite preparations for the launch of the 2026/2027 academic year, educational sources confirmed to Al-Jarida that the concerned authorities have already commenced school cleaning operations, with sanitation workers reporting to their work sites. The sources explained that the contracted companies have provided eight sanitation workers per school, in accordance with the signed agreements, and they began cleaning operations today.

The sources stated that the relevant departments within the Ministry are monitoring the school cleaning works, expecting that all school facilities will be fully cleaned and classrooms prepared before the end of August. They noted that the cleaning contracts include a clause obligating cleaning companies to provide labor by mid-August each year, which has facilitated smooth execution of the works well before the start of the school term.

Maintenance works in schools are also underway at full speed. Engineers tasked with overseeing maintenance continue their visits to schools to ensure that all maintenance tasks in school facilities are completed and that they are ready before the start of the school year, particularly regarding air conditioning systems and water coolers.

Meanwhile, the sources mentioned that the Ministry has completed the hiring procedures for 2,440 Kuwaiti male and female teachers in specializations required by schools. The relevant authorities are currently distributing these new teachers according to the actual needs of the schools.

The sources added that newly appointed teachers will not be allowed to transfer to other schools within three years of their appointment, in accordance with new regulatory decisions. They noted that the new teachers will begin their duties with the start of the academic year on September 6, with distribution based on need.

The Ministry is continuing to welcome new citizen teachers nominated by the Civil Service Bureau, particularly in specializations facing shortages. The relevant departments are working to quantify the numbers in each educational specialization to determine the need in each field, prioritizing the filling of gaps with national cadres, followed by local contracts from Gulf nationals and stateless residents, and then expatriates.

On another note, the Ministry of Education concluded the seven-a-side football tournament organized by the evening school summer clubs for boys, with the participation of 10 clubs. This is part of the summer clubs’ programs aimed at utilizing students’ time during the summer vacation, developing their sports and physical abilities, and discovering and nurturing talents.

Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs, Eng. Hamad Al-Hamad, emphasized that holding the tournament aligns with the Ministry’s interest in promoting school sports and expanding student participation in sports activities, due to their role in developing students’ capabilities and skills, and instilling values of cooperation, respect, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

For her part, Dr. Hessa Arab, Director of the Technical Guidance Department for Physical Education and Acting General Secretary of the Kuwait School Sports Federation, stated that the tournament represents the second edition of the seven-a-side football championships designated for male students in the middle and secondary stages. She explained that this year’s edition saw the participation of 10 school summer clubs, with competitions showcasing promising sports abilities and skills among the participating students.
