3.9-magnitude earthquake strikes northern Iraq regions; no casualties or material damage reported

Areas between Kirkuk Governorate and Chamchamal District in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate of northern Iraq experienced a 3.9-magnitude earthquake on Friday, with no reported casualties or material damage.

The Iraqi General Authority of Meteorology and Seismology stated that its observatories recorded the tremor at a depth of 9 kilometers beneath the surface, noting that its epicenter was located near the village of Zanjan, in the Sinaka sub-district, between Kirkuk and Chamchamal in northern Iraq, according to the Qatar News Agency (QNA).

The authority added that residents of Kirkuk, Chamchamal, and surrounding areas felt the tremor, which sparked panic among some locals, prompting several residents to leave their homes as a precaution. No damage has been reported by the relevant authorities so far.
