Trump: Strait of Hormuz is open and the US still retains the option of escalation with Iran

US President Donald Trump affirmed that the Strait of Hormuz is currently open to navigation, stressing that the United States retains the capacity to escalate tensions with Iran.

Trump stated that the United States is “the only country that controls the Strait of Hormuz,” noting that the situation in the strait had been complicated by the presence of mines, but that US forces had managed to clear them from the entire waterway.

He added that Washington would demand compensation for the damages caused by Iran, while reiterating that the United States still has options for escalation in its dealings with Tehran.
