Turkish MPs approve historic law on integrating PKK fighters

The Turkish parliament approved a historic bill on Monday evening to reintegrate members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) into society, marking the culmination of a peace process that began roughly two years ago.

The legislation passed with a large majority of 468 votes in favor, against 88 opposed, with six MPs abstaining. The bill establishes a framework for the return of Kurdish rebels who have surrendered their weapons to civilian life, but it does not include a general amnesty following the more than four-decade-long conflict.
