US pressure on Israel to end fighting on three fronts
Israeli circles reported significant disagreements between Israel and the United States, stating that Washington conveyed a message to Tel Aviv expressing its desire to end the war on three active fronts: Iran, Lebanon, and Gaza.
Channel 13, an Israeli broadcaster, reported on the night of Sunday-Monday that the rift between Tel Aviv and Washington is widening, particularly between the statements of Israeli officials and the actions and reports from Washington. It added that these disagreements are escalating at an inopportune time for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, noting that Israeli security officials have protested at the political level in recent days over the halt of targeted assassination operations and modifications to the occupation army’s actions in Gaza.
The channel confirmed that the United States wants Israel to end combat on the three active fronts, which is the message conveyed by Commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Admiral Brad Cooper, who visited Tel Aviv last Saturday. It pointed out that the Israeli military informed Americans that Tel Aviv retains the option of intervening in Iran if intelligence reveals that Tehran continues its vigorous pursuit of acquiring nuclear weapons and rehabilitating its ballistic missile system.
In a statement, Fahmi noted that “Netanyahu’s statements rejecting the 15-point roadmap to complete the implementation of the comprehensive peace plan, and his insistence on preventing the establishment of a Palestinian state in the devastated Gaza Strip or the West Bank, reveal a blatant disregard for international will and the benchmarks of the peace process, directly undermining the prospects for a peaceful settlement and the establishment of a just and comprehensive peace.”
This came as figures within the “Peace Council” claimed that Israel is actually implementing key provisions of the roadmap for the second phase of the “Trump plan” for Gaza, despite Netanyahu’s public rejection of the plan. While Israeli data indicated that Netanyahu had participated in discussions over recent days regarding limited withdrawals from areas in Rafah, Channel 14 reported that the occupation army is considering a dramatic reduction in its troop numbers in the Strip, returning to pre-October 7 levels.
