Oman: Oil spill from the tanker Caroline Bezinger extends over 390 square kilometers

Omani authorities announced on Monday that an oil slick covering approximately 390 square kilometers had formed off its coast following damage to a sanctioned vessel carrying Russian crude oil.

Two security sources in Bahrain stated that the crew of the vessel, the Caroline B, first reported the incident on June 8 off the port of Mokha in southern Yemen, adding that initial assessments indicated an explosion had occurred on board.

In its first public disclosure of details regarding the environmental impact, Oman said on Monday that it was making strenuous efforts to address the oil spill in its waters near the Hallaniyat Islands off the southern Dhofar Governorate.
