Iraq announced on Sunday evening the formation of a new military operations command to secure stability and restore order in the desert region of the Muthanna Governorate, which is located near the borders with both Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
The Iraqi News Agency (INA) attributed to a senior security source on Sunday the statement that a “ministerial order has been issued to establish the Desert Operations Command, with the aim of enhancing security and stability in the Muthanna desert areas and their surrounding regions.”
The source clarified that “the issuance of the ministerial order establishing the Desert Operations Command aims to bolster security and stability in the Muthanna desert and adjacent areas, as well as to strengthen coordination and openness with other military units.”
Muthanna Governorate is located in the far southwest of Iraq, with its southern border extending along the frontiers of both Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
