Tehran: Closure of Hormuz until Washington accepts all our demands

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced on Sunday that it would not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway vital to the global economy, unless the United States accepts the conditions set by Tehran, including payment of compensation for war damages.

Iran has effectively controlled the Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of war, following the first US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28. It is currently requiring ships to transit in coordination with Iranian authorities and exclusively through a route running parallel to its coastline, while planning to impose a “service fee” on vessels wishing to use it.

The frequent attacks in this strategic waterway led to the collapse of the ceasefire agreement reached in April, while mediators have urged both sides to return to compliance with the terms of the subsequent memorandum of understanding signed in June, which had laid the groundwork for peace talks.
