Abdel-Ati Plans Visit to Damascus

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty plans to visit the Syrian capital, Damascus, in a trip that marks the first visit by a senior Egyptian official since President Ahmed al-Sharaa came to power about two years ago, amid growing ties between the two countries and Syrian ambitions for full normalization with Cairo.

The visit will be “a step toward rebuilding Egyptian-Syrian relations and reintegrating Damascus into the framework of joint Arab action.”

The trip could signal a transition from a phase of exploring positions and building trust to a clearer stage of reactivating political and economic relations, and will serve as a step toward rebuilding Egyptian-Syrian ties and reintegrating Syria into the framework of joint Arab action.

On the other hand, Syrian political analyst Abdullah Al-Hamad said the visit is an important indicator that the two countries have agreed to accelerate the pace of rapprochement, particularly given that there are security and economic files requiring enhanced cooperation and pushing for further steps.
