European Union: Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia threaten regional stability

The European Union strongly condemned the recent attacks carried out by the Houthi group, which targeted Saudi Arabia and areas under the control of the Yemeni government, warning that continued escalation threatens regional stability and undermines efforts to achieve a political settlement in Yemen.

In a statement, the EU’s official spokesperson said the recent Houthi attacks, which included strikes on Saudi Arabia’s Najran region and Yemen’s Marib city, hit civilian facilities and infrastructure, resulting in casualties. The EU expressed its solidarity with Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni government and offered condolences to the families of the victims.

The EU emphasized that targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure is “unacceptable and must stop immediately,” calling on the Houthi group to halt all attacks inside and outside Yemen.

The statement described the recent escalation as a “serious development” that could further undermine stability in the region and jeopardize ongoing efforts to end the Yemeni conflict, reaffirming the EU’s continued commitment to supporting the Yemeni people and working with the United Nations, regional partners, and international counterparts to de-escalate tensions and achieve a comprehensive and sustainable peace.

The attacks also extended to Marib city, where the Yemeni Ministry of Health announced that two civilians were killed and 14 others injured in shelling that hit residential neighborhoods and displacement camps. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia reported that 11 civilians were injured in the Najran region following a Houthi attack on civilian areas.
