Yemen: Military operation against the Houthis
The Yemeni Ministry of Defense announced today the execution of a military operation against the Ansar Allah (Houthi) group across several fronts along the contact lines, in response to what it described as recent Houthi aggressions. This comes as several fronts in the country witness heightened field escalation, with fierce clashes on the western coast. Military sources reported the thwarting of a Houthi movement south of Al-Hudaydah Governorate, as well as missile and drone attacks on military sites and civilian areas.
Major General Majid Al-Nazili, the official spokesperson for the Yemeni Army, stated in a press release that the operation was carried out “in accordance with the legitimate right of the armed forces to defend their security and that of their personnel, and to protect civilians from treacherous and repeated terrorist attacks.” He added that government forces targeted “Houthi militia forces, capabilities, and terrorist elements across several fronts along the contact lines.”
In Al-Hudaydah Governorate, in the west of the country, military sources told the German news agency DPA that forces from the Tihama Resistance thwarted a Houthi movement in the Al-Tabiyah district, after detecting a gathering of dozens of group members “who were preparing to launch an attack on government positions north of the Al-Haymah area.”
The sources noted that “forces from the First Tihama Brigade targeted the Houthi gathering with missile strikes before the attack could begin, thereby foiling it.” They added that this was followed by an exchange of artillery fire between the two sides, “resulting in casualties among the ranks of the Houthi militia.” The forces also targeted a Houthi military vehicle carrying reinforcements in the Al-Ghairiq area, west of Al-Tabiyah.
Over the past two days, the Houthi group launched several attacks on positions in Marib Governorate, killing two people and injuring 14 civilians. The group claimed it targeted camps in the oil-rich governorate.
