Public Works: Production of over 7.8 million cubic meters of treated water in July
The Ministry of Public Works continues to develop its system for producing treated water, in both tertiary and quaternary grades, through various tenders issued by the ministry, utilizing the latest global technologies in this field.
Through numerous projects, the ministry aims to maximize the utilization of this sector to serve both productive and ornamental agriculture across the country’s various governorates, in addition to leveraging it for diverse industrial sectors.
Recently, Kuwait signed a contract for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the North Kabd Water Reclamation Plant and its complementary works, marking the second cooperation agreement with China. The signing was attended by the Prime Minister, His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, underscoring the project’s status as one of the key strategic initiatives in this domain.
Regarding monthly production volumes, the Ministry of Public Works recently announced that the total amount of treated water produced in July reached approximately 7.873 million cubic meters, comprising both quaternary and tertiary grades. Specifically, tertiary-treated water amounted to about 1.026 million cubic meters, while quaternary-treated water reached approximately 6.848 million cubic meters.
These figures reflect the scale of the country’s treated wastewater production system and the role played by the Ministry of Public Works’ treatment plants in handling large volumes of wastewater through advanced treatment stages. Treated water of various grades contributes to reducing waste and conserving water resources produced by the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy.
This expansion highlights the growing reliance on advanced treatment technologies and the enhanced efficiency of utilizing wastewater for productive agriculture, aligning with the state’s strategy to secure water for production purposes. These treatment efforts are part of the Ministry of Public Works’ initiatives to protect the environment, employing the latest global technologies to strengthen the wastewater management system and improve the operational efficiency of treatment plants.
The Ministry of Public Works implements these projects in line with developmental needs and the increasing demand for such water, supporting the state’s orientation toward sustainability and the rationalization of water use.
Once treated water meets the approved specifications and standards for each treatment grade, it becomes a valuable resource for various applications, particularly irrigation and landscaping. This helps alleviate pressure on the freshwater resources produced by the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy.
A meeting discussed the mechanism for cooperation between the institute and the ministry to support staff by training individuals with specialized technical skills, as well as training ministry employees to enhance practical efficiency in the execution, operation, and maintenance of projects across all ministry sectors.
