Syria: Foiled ISIS Attempt to Carry Out Terrorist Attack in Sayyida Zainab Area, Damascus Suburbs

Syria’s Internal Security Forces announced on Friday the neutralization of two ISIS terrorists who were planting an explosive device in the Sayyida Zainab area, on the outskirts of Damascus. The operation took place while a night patrol was carrying out its duties on the roads leading to military barracks and government centers in the area.

In a statement, the Internal Security Forces said that patrol officers suspected two masked individuals positioned on the side of the road. When they attempted to stop them to verify their identities, the suspects opened fire on the officers, leading to a firefight that ended with their neutralization.

Further investigation of the site revealed that the suspects had been planting an explosive device in preparation for a terrorist attack targeting a government institution. Explosives and weapons were also found in their possession, and it was confirmed that they were affiliated with ISIS.

The Ministry of Interior continues its security efforts to combat terrorism, protect citizens, and consolidate security and stability. Through cooperation with the General Intelligence Directorate, the Internal Security Forces have foiled several terrorist plots that the group had planned to carry out in recent months.
