World Bank Approves $100 Million Grant to Support Financial Reforms in Syria

Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad Yasser Baruni said today that the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved a $100 million grant to support financial sector reforms in Syria, expressing his gratitude to the Board.
Baruni added in a statement published by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that this grant is the fifth approved by the World Bank for Syria, following previous grants to support the electricity, health, water, and public financial management sectors, bringing the total value of approved grants to date to $491 million.
He noted that these grants are non-repayable and not loans, and Syria’s commitment lies in their proper implementation and sound financial management.
