Thailand: Two dead and 15 injured in school shooting near Bangkok

Thai authorities said at least one teacher was killed and four other people were injured by a student who opened fire at a school on Friday before taking his own life. Lieutenant Colonel Dischaphon Kongdee, commander of the Nonthaburi police, confirmed the report to Reuters, stating that the suspect in the incident had committed suicide. He added that among the injured were one teacher and three students.

The incident occurred in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, north of Bangkok. An 18-year-old student told Reuters that he initially believed the incident was caused by fireworks. He said, “I didn’t think at first that it was gunfire. There were many shots, then silence. Then the shots started again.”

In images released by emergency workers, students were seen rushing out of Debsirin Nonthaburi School, located in the northwestern suburbs of Bangkok, while ambulances were on site. In one photo, a person was seen on a stretcher outside an ambulance, while another received care from a paramedic. In February, a school was attacked and a student was injured in Hat Yai, southern Thailand, after a gunman opened fire inside the school.
