US Imposes Sanctions on Cuban Military Officials and Companies

The United States announced on Thursday the imposition of sanctions on Cuban entities and individuals who assist Cuba in securing weapons and maintaining relations with foreign militaries.

Rubio wrote on the X platform: “As President Donald Trump said, the United States will not tolerate a rogue state harboring hostile military, intelligence, and terrorist operations on our doorstep.”

He added: “Anyone who supports, sponsors, or provides services to these sanctioned actors risks facing sanctions themselves. Foreign banks and other companies that provide services to these entities or hold funds for them must immediately cease such activities.”

U.S.-Cuba relations have been tense since the 1959 revolution. Washington imposed a trade embargo on the socialist island more than 60 years ago, and it remains in effect.

Since returning to office, Trump has increased pressure on Havana by imposing additional sanctions. He has also repeatedly raised the possibility of the United States “taking over” the Caribbean country, which is grappling with economic crises.
