Messi's brace makes him the top scorer in the League Cups

Argentine star Lionel Messi became the top scorer in the Leagues Cup on Wednesday, the annual tournament featuring clubs from the American and Mexican leagues, after scoring a brace and leading his Inter Miami side to a 4-2 home victory over Atletico San Luis in the opening round of the group stage of the 2026 edition.
Messi, who helped Miami secure the 2023 title during his first weeks with the club, increased his tally in the competition to 14 goals, surpassing Los Angeles FC winger Denis Bouanga by one goal.
David Rodriguez opened the scoring for the Mexican side in the fourth minute, before Messi equalized seven minutes later.
Venezuelan midfielder Tealab Segovia gave Miami the lead in the 26th minute, and Messi scored his second goal just before halftime. Brazilian defender Micael made it 4-1 in the final seconds of the first half.
In other matches on Wednesday, Dallas defeated Queretaro 2-0, while Leon beat Nashville 1-0.
