German Matthias Jaissle appointed Newcastle manager, replacing Eddie Howe

Yaishle, 38, a former German international who played for the Germany U-21 national team, supervised Al Ahli Saudi Club and led them to win the AFC Champions League Elite title in consecutive years, 2025 and 2026, as well as the Saudi Super Cup in 2025.

Yaishle was forced to end his playing career due to injury when he was 25 years old.

His first coaching experience came with Austrian club Liefering, where he led them to finish second in the Second Division, a result that stands as the club’s best achievement, equaling a previous record.

He joined Al Ahli Saudi Club in 2023 and guided them to win the AFC Champions League in 2025 and 2026, in addition to the Saudi Super Cup in 2025.

The Magpies begin their 2026–2027 English Premier League campaign with a home match against Liverpool on the 23rd of this month. Yaishle expressed his optimism, saying, “I am very excited about the future.”

He added, “I fully and unreservedly believe in this project, the club’s ambition, and the direction it is heading in. There is a clear vision, strong leadership, and an exceptional foundation to build upon.”

Newcastle have played three pre-season matches so far, winning the first against Darlington 3-0, drawing 1-1 with Gateshead, and losing 1-4 to Bristol City.
