Anniversary of the Invasion... Challenges and Shared Destiny

We are commemorating the thirty-sixth anniversary of the Iraqi aggression against our sister state of Kuwait. This occasion brings to mind one of the most impactful milestones in the history of the Arabian Gulf, as it served as a true test of Gulf unity and cemented in the collective consciousness that the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states is indivisible, and that a shared destiny remains stronger than any challenge.
On this occasion, we remember the righteous martyrs of Kuwait who sacrificed their lives in defense of their homeland. We also proudly recall the sacrifices of the Kuwaiti resistance fighters, the prisoners of war, the missing, and all Kuwaitis who embodied the highest ideals of patience, steadfastness, and faith in the justice of their cause during the months of occupation. Kuwait ultimately regained its sovereignty and freedom through the resolve of its sons and the support of its brothers and friends.
The positions adopted by GCC member states during that period will remain a shining landmark in contemporary Gulf history. They stood as one united front in defense of Kuwait and its legitimacy, driven by a firm conviction that Kuwait’s security is an integral part of Gulf security, and that any aggression against a Gulf state is an aggression against all. This solidarity represented an enduring model of political, military, and humanitarian cooperation.
Qatar takes pride in the fact that its sons were part of this historic and honorable stance. The Qatari Armed Forces participated alongside Kuwaiti forces and coalition troops in the defense and liberation of Kuwait, setting a brilliant example of courage and bravery. This participation will remain a source of pride for the Qatari people and a point of respect and admiration among their brothers in Kuwait, as it authentically reflected the unity of blood and destiny among the people of the Gulf.
Today, Qatari-Kuwaiti relations continue their distinguished trajectory, witnessing continuous development across all fields. This progress reflects a shared vision to enhance joint Gulf cooperation and to consolidate the foundations of security, stability, and sustainable development in the region.
Commemorating this occasion reaffirms the importance of preserving the gains achieved through the sacrifices of fathers and heroes, and renews our commitment to ensuring that Gulf states remain a model of solidarity, integration, and cooperation. It is also an opportunity to draw lessons that taught us unity is the source of strength, and that sincere brotherhood is the true guarantee for the security and stability of our homelands.
In conclusion, we reiterate Qatar’s full solidarity with our sister state of Kuwait, and renew our pride in the enduring fraternal relations that bind our two countries. We pray to Almighty God to protect Kuwait and its people, to perpetuate the blessings of security and prosperity upon it, to safeguard the GCC states, to have mercy on the righteous martyrs of Kuwait, and to keep their memory as a source of inspiration for future generations in the values of sacrifice, loyalty, and patriotism.
