Dhofar Mountains Hold Their “White Gold”

Among the frankincense trees that grow in the dry mountainous environment of Dhofar Governorate, the journey of extracting white gold begins through fine incisions made in the tree’s outer bark using specialized tools. These incisions allow a milky, viscous sap to ooze out, which is left to dry gradually and transform into resinous granules. The granules are then manually collected in successive stages during the production season.

KUNA reported today that this process requires inherited expertise, as it relies on determining the optimal timing for incisions and the number of extractions the tree can withstand, ensuring sustainable production and maintaining quality. Meanwhile, climatic conditions and geographical location play a fundamental role in determining the quality of the frankincense.
