Launch of the seventh round of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations in Rome

The seventh round of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations, sponsored by the United States, began today in Rome, the Italian capital.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said the talks would continue until August 6.

He added that the negotiations include technical committees from both countries aimed at fully implementing the trilateral framework agreement, including the experimental zones mechanism, the verification of Hezbollah’s disarmament, the redeployment of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, and laying the groundwork for a comprehensive peace and security agreement.

Meanwhile, a senior Lebanese official source said that today’s talks in Rome were divided into political and military sessions, adding that the Lebanese side presented a proposal on the border during the political meeting, while the military session discussed the verification mechanism for implementing security arrangements and the third party responsible for overseeing them.

The official confirmed that Beirut has not yet received a response from the Israeli side regarding its commitment to a ceasefire.
