Iraqi military commander: Situation is safe and normal on the border with Syria

A senior Iraqi military official stated on Tuesday that the situation along the Iraq-Syria border is normal, and movements on the Syrian side are being carried out “with our knowledge and in coordination with us.”

Border Forces Commander Lieutenant General Mohammed Sakr Al-Saadi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “the situation on the border with Syria is normal, and movements on the Syrian side are being conducted in coordination with us.” He added, “There is no current threat to the border, and there is information exchange and coordination with the Syrian side.”

He noted that “our forces are firmly holding the border, and the Syrian side has not yet manned the border outposts.”

Iraq has been constructing a large concrete wall along the Iraq-Syria border for several years, reinforced with trenches, barbed wire, and thermal cameras to monitor border security and prevent any infiltration attempts.
