Morocco announces in its first official report the death of 11 migrants on their way to Ceuta

The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior announced on Sunday an initial death toll for migrants who lost their lives while attempting to reach the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in northern Morocco, with 11 fatalities reported, while Spanish authorities stated that more than 70 people had died.

In a statement, the ministry said it had recorded one accidental death resulting from a fall in a rocky area near the city of Ceuta, along with 10 deaths caused by drowning. This contrasts with a figure released by Spanish authorities, which put the death toll at at least 72. Spain confirmed that it had returned the majority of the more than 60,000 migrants who had flooded into Ceuta in recent days.
