Al-Zaidi: We are prepared to thwart any attempt to attack neighboring countries

Iraq reaffirmed on Saturday evening its readiness to thwart any attempt targeting neighboring countries within its regional sphere, and its firm commitment to preventing the use of Iraqi territory as a launching point or corridor for aggression against fraternal and friendly states, in line with its responsibility to safeguard national sovereignty and respect the principles of good neighborliness and international law.

Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali al-Zaidi, emphasized during an emergency meeting to discuss regional security developments the need to “prevent any transgression or threat emanating from Iraqi territory toward neighboring countries,” and to establish a joint security committee to confront challenges. He also directed the implementation of “deterrent mechanisms to prevent the recurrence of such incidents or any potential violations,” according to a statement from the Iraqi government.
