Senior member of India's 'Cricketers' Party: We want to build a movement to hold the government accountable

A senior member of the “Crickets Party,” which has led India’s largest student protests in years, said he wants to build a nationwide movement to hold the government accountable for its promises to young people.

Suraj Das, 27, the group’s spokesperson and former investigative journalist, told Bloomberg News on Saturday that the group aims to establish a grassroots organization with workers in every district, in an interview conducted in New Delhi on Friday.

Das added that the group, which transformed from a social media joke into a mass student movement in just two months, has no immediate plans to register as a political party.

Instead, it plans to travel across the country and organize public gatherings in villages to listen to young people’s concerns and demand greater government accountability on issues including unemployment, inflation, and food security.
